Finger Lakes Community College expanded their footprint creating new spaces and new furniture requirements. There was a desire to update the look of the existing offices and student lounges in an affordable way. Using our inventory assessment services, the college was able to evaluate the state of their existing furnishings, along with recommendations on how to develop standardization layouts to enable the college to create a unified look across their departments. A ten-year projection on what to replace, consistent with their budget, provided a useful path moving forward. Vargas Associates organized an anonymous multiple vendor furniture mock-up based on standards written in coordination with the college’s purchasing department. Mock-up furniture for hard wall offices, open plan workstations, lobby furniture, and seating were evaluated by college cabinet members. Ten-point evaluation matrices were created to address key issues of product quality, perceived durability, ease of use, and aesthetics.
